About Vattenfall

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges worldwide. At Vattenfall, we are committed to a future in which we are less dependent on the use of fossil fuels for our energy. In a way that takes us forward as a society.

Reducing fossil fuels

We are committed to a future in which we are less dependent on the use of fossil fuels for our energy. That is why Vattenfall is investing in renewable energy, such as wind power. This is good for the climate and for the Netherlands. Find out what our plan is for reducing our dependence on these fuels as much as possible.

One of the largest players

Vattenfall is one of the largest energy companies in Europe. We have been generating and supplying power for more than 100 years. As well as our presence in Sweden and the Netherlands, we are also active in Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Finland. In the Netherlands, we employee approximately 4,800 staff.

Clear aim

Windmolens Noordzee

We are working every day to become less dependent on fossil fuels, for example, by reducing Co2 emissions at customer sites with the production of components from wind turbines, for example, and reducing our own Co2 emissions in operations, such as in office buildings. View our full plan here.

In 2006 we built the first offshore wind farm in the Netherlands on the coast at Egmond aan Zee. This wind farm consists of 36 wind turbines and pumps out 108 megawatts (MW) of sustainable energy. The Hollandse Kust Zuid Wind Farm is the second offshore wind farm that Vattenfall has constructed in the Netherlands.

Test location in Scotland

Vattenfall has their own test and demonstration site in Scotland: at the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). This site consists of eleven wind turbines that test new technologies for the next generation of wind farms. Read more about the test site.
