Nature inclusive design
At Hollandse Kust Zuid, Vattenfall is working with the Dutch nature conservation organisation De Rijke Noordzee to promote marine biodiversity as part of the wind farm’s nature-inclusive design. Here are some key aspects of this initiative:
- Turbine foundation design: Each turbine foundation has water replenishment holes, allowing fish and other marine species to enter and leave. This creates new habitats for marine life to settle, shelter and feed, while also helping to lower the risk of steel corrosion.
- Rock Reefs: These serve to strengthen the existing scour protection and provide additional habitats for marine organisms
- Monitoring and research: We continuously study the impact of these measures on biodiversity to inform future offshore wind projects.
Through this work, we aim to support a healthy marine ecosystem while enabling fossil-free living.
